How to safely get rid of an old computer

  

Do you have an old computer just lying around that hasn’t been used in a while? Don’t throw it away in the bin, because computers contain all types of toxins that are bad for the environment. Also you wouldn’t want the computer hard drive to fall into the wrong hands. Even if you have deleted all your data there are programs out there that can retrieve deleted files.

To dispose your computer properly you can trade or sell your computer to us. We will then either refurbish the computer and resell or ship it off to our vendor partners such as HP for example, and they will dispose of the computer responsibly through their own recycling programs.

To remove all your personal information before disposing your computer first save all important files on another computer, flash drive or cloud. After you have backed up your data, run a dedicated hard drive wiping program like Windows PCs File Shredder (free) and for Macs try Permanent Eraser (free). Just deleting files into the recycle bin is not good enough because there are recovery programs available that can retrieve deleted information.
