Does Bigger Mean Better?
In terms of choosing the right size computer monitor, a larger size screen or having two screens has the ability to significantly increase productivity.
A study by Apple in 2006 suggests that the larger the computer screen the higher the user’s productivity rate. Working on a 30 inch monitor has the potential to increase productivity by 60%. Similarly The Wall Street Journal in 2008 found that people working on a 24 inch monitor worked 50% faster than those working on an 18 inch monitor. Research conducted by New York Times in 2006 discovered that adding an extra monitor will increase work output by 20-30%.
However you should consider how much work space is available before purchasing a new monitor. If the monitor is too large, the user may feel cramped and may place strain on the eyes. Generally, a computer screen should be 20-40 inches away from the user.
